How to import characters

Choose an alias

This is how your account will be referenced in the client, so pick a name that doesn't reveal any sensitive information. eg. 'main' or 'skiller'.

Launch Jagex Account Manager

Now we launch the Jagex Account Manager, which will allow us to import our characters.

Select "Import Jagex Characters"

This may require us to download some resource so that we can launch the login process.

This will open the Jagex OAuth login in a new window.

Sign into your Jagex Account

Save Accounts

When complete, a list of available characters will appear. Press "Save" to store these accounts (protected by the RuneMate Vault).

Select Linked Character

Now you can select the character you wish to link in the account creation page:

If access to any of your accounts expires you'll be shown a warning prompting you to renew acess to them:

Security & Safety

We understand that many users will have concerns about the safety and security implications of importing their Jagex Characters into RuneMate, so we have prepared this FAQ to provide clarity on how it works and the steps we've taken to ensure your safety.

Why do I need to log in?

To import your data, we need your permission through official Jagex OAuth login page. This ensures you stay in full control - we never see your password, and we only gain access to information needed to launch new clients.

Is this safe?

Yes. Here's how we protect you:

Your data never leaves your PC

Everything we fetch stays entirely on your machine. We don’t upload, sync, or transmit it anywhere.

Locally encrypted with RuneMate Vault

Any information we store locally is encrypted with your RuneMate Vault password - similar to how password managers protect your data. Without the password, the data is unreadable, even by us.

Identical to Jagex Launcher

When RuneMate launches the game client it is indistinguishable from game clients launched by the Jagex Launcher.

We can't access your account.

We cannot log in as you, see your private data, or perform actions on your behalf. OAuth gives us only a limited, read-only token for the specific data needed to launch clients on this machine.

Alternative: Launch client via Jagex Launcher

If you still do not feel comfortable importing your characters from your Jagex Account, you can instead launch RuneLite clients from the actual Jagex Launcher. This requires a patch to be applied to the Jagex Launcher which allows RuneMate to find and attach to these clients.

This option can be found in the "Edit" menu:

RuneMate will automatically search for your RuneLite in the default location, but if it cannot find it you may be prompted find it yourself:

The default installation directory on Windows is %LOCALAPPDATA%\RuneLite.
